From Classroom to Career: Internship Insights
Come along for a behind-the-scenes look at Emily’s experience as a Marketing Intern at EDCi! Dive into her passions, the lessons she’s picked up, and her exciting goals for the future. Throughout the blog, Emily shares her personal journey –filled with standout moments, achievements, and experiences that have made her time at EDCi truly unforgettable.
What first interested you in the technology field?
Personally, I never saw myself working in the technology field, but my dad is a software engineer, so I’ve been around it my whole life. When I was given the opportunity to work with EDCi, I was a little nervous because technology isn’t my strong suit, but I’ve learned so much so far outside of the marketing field, which is super cool.
Give us a little background on who you are outside of work – hobbies, interests, fun facts, etc.
I’m an incoming junior at St. Norbert College in Green Bay! I’m attending school for a Business Administration degree focusing on Marketing and a minor in English. I’m on the SNC Dance Team, a dance instructor at a local studio, and a member of Kappa Beta Gamma.
What are you currently going to school for? What has been your most interesting course so far, and why?
I’m attending school to earn a degree in Business Administration, focusing on Marketing. I’m also minoring in English to really set me up for success with my writing skills! My favorite class so far has been my first writing class. This course really focused on writing in the business world, how to send proper emails, and writing with a professional and personal tone. This helped me prepare for interviews, send emails, and write blog posts for EDCi and Electroline!
What has your experience been working with EDCi so far? Please share your first impressions, day-to-day work, favorite memories, etc.
My favorite word to describe EDCi is “supportive.” From my very first day in the office, the staff has gone above and beyond to support my journey. The marketing team is amazing, and everyone I’ve met has been incredibly welcoming and eager to help. This supportive environment extends beyond work, as sharing about personal lives helped make my colleagues feel more approachable and human.
What have been the strong/high points of your internship experience so far?
I gained valuable insights into what the marketing world is really like. While I initially focused on social media, that isn’t all there is to marketing. I discovered the broader scope of marketing, including inbound and outbound strategies, analytics, and behind-the-scenes operations. I also learned about design, personalization, and branding. One standout experience was working on a marketing campaign. My team trusted me to give it a go right off the bat, and creating graphics for an entire campaign was a lot, but looking back, I’m super proud of the work I created.
Have you learned anything exciting or new?
Yes!! My favorite thing so far is learning about branding! I run both my sorority Instagram and help make graphics for my dance team’s Instagram, so learning how to brand things, make them personalized, and look cohesive on the page has been super exciting. It’s fun to learn things I can bring and apply to my personal life!!
What are your goals for your internship AND your career?
My whole goal for this internship was to learn, and I definitely did! I strive to continue to learn in my career as well; I love learning new things!
As a student intern with limited time, what makes EDCi stand out as a company with which to work with? Why EDCi?
This summer, EDCi’s flexibility was perfect for balancing my limited time with family and friends before heading back to school. Being part of a smaller company has allowed me to build meaningful connections and quickly get to know everyone, making this experience truly rewarding. EDCi is one big family. As a family-oriented company, every employee is there to support one another.
Do you have any advice for students who may be looking for an internship or career in technology?
My advice to future interns is to try something new even if you think it may not be your thing. Internships are for learning and growing, so step outside your comfort zone!
